Archival Forensic Processes

Introduction

The incorporation of traditional forensic methodologies into standard archival workflow has become increasingly necessary. It allows for the efficient management and preservation of digital files, which are becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s society. The use of forensic techniques can assist with the ingestion of born-digital materials, ensuring that they are properly processed and stored. This approach also enables the identification and mitigation of potential risks associated with digital files, such as data corruption or loss. Overall, the integration of traditional forensic methodologies into digital preservation practices is a positive step towards ensuring that valuable digital materials are protected for future generations.

The Center’s Archives supports the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model as well as research from Cal Lee from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
